The Garden State is suing Exxon, Chevron, Shell, BP and other oil giants for consumer fraud and the resulting climate damages to communities across the state.
The guy on the left is DEP Commissioner Shawn LaTourette. He is a former corporate lawyer who represented some of NJ's largest polluters. He has done virtually nothing with DEP's regulatory powers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The one rule he did adopt basically grandfathered all current polluters and allows new major sources of greenhouse gas emissions. DEP does not regulate GHG emissions from all sources, except a handful of facilities, but their emissions limits allowed them to pollute at current levels, as long as they pass their pitifully small RGGI allowances.
LaTourette has signed off on several corporate sweetheart settlement deals, including for big oil refineries, for "natural resource damages", the same damages the state is allegedly seeking recovery in these PR lawsuits.
This DEP, under a Wall Street Democrat, is as bad or worse than the Christie DEP.
On the NJ stuff, you got played.
